To Remember That I Love You

To Remember That I Love You

By Lily Madison

I sleep in the crevice where bed meets wall

And let you have the big part of the mattress

So you can remember that I love you

When my side is bruised and aches of you

I’ll pray the bone is contused

So I can remember that I love you

My angel wings pressed against the door when you leave

Crimson weeping from them and sticking to the wood

From when you ripped my back shoulder blades off

Broke my ribs,

And forced me to breathe;

Causing my lungs to inflate out of my back

The skin being deployed as wings

Me and my angel wings

Too heavy and wet to fly

But I wouldn’t dare to clip them

I hope this lesion never heals

And I hope my side is forever bruised
