the tale none would tell
the tale none would tell
By A. Roy
In the age of dragons that men could slay
There lived one in a land far away,
Destined to forever stand mighty and tall,
Watching over a cavern filled with riches
Obtained by none, though coveted by all.
With protection of the gold being a duty
the poor beast was taught to be life’s beauty,
Chained by purpose though yearning for the skies,
Days passed and he never understood why
Dancing to Destiny’s tune wasn’t worth the price.
And then once, much to that dragon’s ire,
Word of the hidden wealth spread like wildfire;
No matter the aim, be it treasure or fame,
The cave appealed to all, leading them straight
To the watchman they couldn’t tame.
After tons of trials, defeated and tired;
The neighbouring princes together conspired
To ensure for eternity, the dragon shut his eyes
And it worked as you can see, since he died
While they dubbed him evil; of course, all lies.
People knew not the name; just his fury,
Singing solely about the princes’ glory,
Fully forgetting the caged guard that fell;
And thus, the dragon’s life became
Just another tale no one would tell.
