Moon in the Darkness

By Mrinalini Lal

We ended it a year ago,

Yet you still show up in my dreams.

I don’t know what it is.

I guess I just want to be set free.

We were laughing like the old times

but in reality,

it was before there were any crimes.

You saved me

Gave me a chance

I wish we could at least,

have one last dance.

I wish I told you

that I owe you.

You gave me life in death—

Became the moon in all the darkness.

On the pretext of a false expectation

I feel heavy in my heart.

Tired of antagonizing you

when really I just want to

be next to you.

The pain is so forceful

it keeps me up at night.

He loved me, right?

You say, “he might.”
